PHOENIX — The Musical Instrument Museum has a new jazz exhibit on view through 2014 that features several instruments used by legendary jazz figures. The exhibit, in the museum’s United States/Canada gallery, is one of the largest genre exhibits at the museum. Among the approximately 20 instruments in the exhibit are a cornet played by Louis Armstrong, a clarinet played by Benny Goodman, a trumpet played by Harry James, a clarinet played by Artie Shaw, a trombone played by J.J. Johnson, a drum set played by Lewis Nash, a guitar played by Pat Metheny and a trumpet mouthpiece and mute used by Miles Davis. The exhibit also includes original, unreleased performance footage of Stanley Turrentine, Herbie Mann and Spyro Gyra from Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild. www.mim.org
